Every major guitar brands today has an entry level guitar to offer. These guitars are categorized appropriately as decent sounding and playable. They are great for beginners who just wanna spend a few bucks for a guitar, small amp and basic accessories to get them started in learning chords, develop lead skills, and soon progress in covering songs they like.

Just like the affordable guitars from Squier by Fender and guitars coming from G&L. Sterling by Music Man SUB Silo 3 is arguably another guitar model that Fender has pave the way for and has greatly inspired. Considering the pedigree of the body shape, similarities in components, and the man who headed these brands in their early days, which is Leo Fender.

Now the Music Man brand is owned by Ernie Ball that throughout the 80’s has made a lot of guitars and basses, some of which were signature models for Eddie Van Halen, John Petrucci, Albert Lee etc.

Body and Neck: Tonewood for the double cutaway contoured body of the Sterling by MusicMan Silo3 is made of jabon wood. It is a native wood of Asia with a characteristic of being a bit heavier than basswood.

Despite the difference in weight, the two wood share similarities on how they are use for guitars and tonality. Both are used for entry level to mid-range guitars, and provides a fat tone when clean and dark warm sounding when overdriven.

The guitar has four finishes to choose from, namely in white, metallic red, tobacco burst and black. Every finish of the guitar presents a different color of scratch plate and fingerboard. For the black finish, it has an all maple neck and frets, while the other colors of the Silo3 has a rosewood fingerboard. Another to look forward into is the asymmetrical neck that adds to comfort of playing, then the neck is bolt-on to the body using a chrome plate and five screws.

Pick-ups: The HSS pick-up configuration is controlled by a master volume, master tone and 5-way switch blade for pick-ups selection. Single-coil pick-ups are placed at the neck, middle for clear bright tones when played clean and humbucker pick-up on the bridge for fat creamy clean sound.

Hardware: For garnish and functionality of the hardware parts, the guitar is equipped with easy adjustable truss-rod adjuster, chrome finished sealed tuners and the fulcrum tremolo bridge that keeps the string in tune and to produce vibrato effect.

Final Thoughts: The Strat like body and neck profile of Sterling by MusicMan Silo3 is designed for comfort in playing with easy access on the high frets for a good all around guitar. Even though cost is down, the build quality is still excellent, and just at the right weight that feels good to play.

Its price is favorable on the budget, especially for a beginners who also need to buy a small practice amplifier and other accessories like, plectrums guitar stand, cable, gig bag and strap.
